DESCRIPTION

This is an LED matrix sign that wraps around the United Center in Chicago Il. The sign is approx 1824 ft long, and is constructed from 228 eight foot sections. The sign is capable of full motion video at 30 frames per second.

Velotec designed the section controller for the sign. The section controller receives video data at a 200 meg bit rate over a fiber optic link, converts the data to ten bit parallel data to control the LEDs, and re-transmits the data to the next section.

 

NOTEWORTHY TECHNOLOGY 

Receives 200 mega baud optical fiber signal and translates that to a 200 mega baud PECL bus and then to a ten bit TTL parallel data bus

Control system built with AHDL state machines in an Altera 7000 series CPLD.
